Dear friend!

How is it that you still haven't said anything to me about writing the march? [1] I composed and sent it to you on the same day when I received your letter. That was around a month ago [2] . Why didn't you say anything to me about this march in your letter of the 11th, which I received today? I conclude from this that the march never reached you. This is very unfortunate. Nor have you written anything to me about the proofs of the concerto, which were also sent off long ago. All this is worrying and frustrating for me.

What you have written to me about Kashkin is very understandable, i.e. I very much sympathise with your indignation. Idleness and licentiousness must have their limits, and as soon as they transgress the boundaries it can start to seem like bad faith, which is most unpleasant to encounter in such a good fellow as Kashkin.

I have inadvertently found myself in Kiev. I needed to spend time with my sister, who has come here with all her family for a few days on business.

My sister is now bringing the children to their uncle; consequently I shall write no more.

I know nothing more about the matter. I have yet to receive a reply to the ultimatum I sent to Antonina Ivanovna [3] .

Please, golubchik, let me know about the march and the proofs.

Yours, P. Tchaikovsky
