27/14 марта [18]91 г[ода] Париж Нахожусь здесь уже пять дней. Только повидавшись здесь с кем следует, узнал, что мне предстоит. Колонн принял предложение из Петербурга дирижировать в трёх концертах и, не зная, как поступить с обязательным для него 23-им концертом этого сезона, пригласил меня дирижировать им. Программа вся из моих сочинений. Состоится концерт в будущее, т. е. en suit, воскресенье, 5-го апреля/24-го марта, в обычном помещении колонновских концертов, где 3 г[ода] тому назад я уже дирижировал. Что касается Америки, то все уже улажено. 6-го апр[еля]/25 марта я уезжаю из Парижа ещё не знаю куда, чтобы позаняться балетом, а 18/6 апр[еля] сажусь на большой трансатлантический пароход и еду в Нью-Йорк. Каюта уже взята. Я буду один. Про меня больше сказать нечего. У Таси был 2 раза. У неё все благополучно. Ася, или, как её называют теперь, Яся, очень симпатичный ребёнок и очень оригинальный. Рина очень ласкова, очень умна и развита. Здоровье её оставляет желать очень многого, и сегодня я застал её в постели, что, кажется, с ней частенько бывает. Серёжа обыкновенны и красный кусочек мяса с костями; ни хорошего ни дурного про него ничего сказать нельзя. Живут очень мило. Завтра буду у них обедать. Вообще же Париж очень интересен и оживлён; все ко мне очень милы и любезны; ничего неприятного не предстоит, и между тем в душе я настоящий мученик. Кончено! в последний раз я проделываю все эти штуки. Часто вижу Ментер и Сапельникова. Модест процветает. Обнимаю тысячу раз. П. Чайковский Поцелуи от меня Колю и Рудю.

27/14 March 1891 Paris I've been here for five days. It was only after seeing those who know what's what, that I found out what's in store for me. Colonne has accepted an invitation from Petersburg to conduct three concerts and, not knowing what do to with the obligatory 23rd concert of the season here, they asked me to conduct it. The programme consists entirely of my works. The concert will be next, i.e. this coming, Sunday, 5th April/24th March, in the usual venue for Colonne's concerts where I conducted three years ago. As regards America, everything is taken care of. I shall leave Paris on 6th April/25 March, I still don't know where to, in order to work on the ballet , and on 18/6 April I'll be boarding a large transatlantic steamer on my way to New York. The cabin is already booked. I will be alone. That's all there is to say about me. I called at Tasya's twice. She is doing well. Asya, or as she is called now, Yasya , is a very lovely child, and very original. Rina is very affectionate, very clever and mature. Her health leaves a lot to be desired, and today I found she had taken to her bed, which quite often happens. Serezha is just like a plain piece of red meat with bones; there's neither nothing good nor bad that can be said about him. He's sweet and very full of life. Tomorrow I'll be having dinner with them. In general Paris is very interesting and full of life, and everyone has been very sweet and accommodating. There's nothing unpleasant going on, and yet in my heart I'm still suffering.
