4 февр[аля] 1888 г[ода] Берлин Голубчик Тоничка! С тех пор как я Вас упрекнул, что Вы не пишете, я получил 2 Ваших письма. Тысячу раз благодарю за них. Вы не можете себе представить, как это мне ценно!!! Три дня как я здесь. На другой день по приезде была первая репетиция. Музыканты отнеслись ко мне восторженно. Это для меня самое главное. Теперь публика для меня плевать. В тот же день был большой парадный обед у Вольфа, данный по моей просьбе, чтобы слышали Сапельникова. Так же как в Гамбурге в концерте, как в Лейпциге в разных многочисленных вечерах и обедах, — он произвёл фурор. Григ считает его гением. Может быть, это преувеличение, но талант огромный и человек очень симпатичный. Вчера большой обед у Бока. Арто сидела рядом со мной в бальном наряде, толстая как пузырь. Не касаясь вовсе прошлого, мы с ней как бы заново страшно подружились. Послезавтра я у неё обедаю. Сегодня день был очень беспокойный, а завтра ещё хуже. Масса знакомых. Сейчас видел у консула Кудрявцева Магницкую, которая у них временно живёт. Милые люди. У меня тут много обязательных посещений в дома, которые благоволили к покойному Котеку. Завтра я в двух из таких домов обедаю, и 1½ и в 5½. Ужасно. Затем вечером концерт Бюловский, и потом опять приглашён в один дом ужинать. В среду 8 февр[аля]/27 янв[аря] вспомните меня, будет мои концерт, или, как здесь в объявлениях, Tschaikowsky's grosser Konzert. Впрочем, письмо придёт уже после концерта. От Фридриха (целая эпопея) отделался сегодня 500 марок. Сукин сын и даже что-то вроде шантажиста. Сапельников живёт рядом со мной, и я его очень полюбил. Большое для меня утешение. 4 February 1888 Berlin Golubchik Tonichka! Since I reproached you for not having written [1], I've received 2 of your letters [2]. A thousand thanks for them. You can't imagine how precious they are to you. I'm here for three days. The first rehearsal was the day after I arrived. The musicians behaved enthusiastically towards me. For me this is the most important thing, whether the public care for me or not. That same day there was a grand ceremonial dinner at Wolff's, given at my request, in order to hear Sapelnikov. Just as in the Hamburg concert, and in a variety of numerous soirees and dinners, he caused a furore. Grieg considers him a genius. Perhaps this is an exaggeration, but he's an enormously talented and very sympathetic fellow. Yesterday there was a grand dinner at Bock's. Artôt was seated next to me in a ball gown, puffed up like a balloon. We didn't touch on the past at all, it was as though we were becoming new close friends. I'm having dinner with her the day after tomorrow. Today was a very disturbing day, and tomorrow will be even worse. There are masses of acquaintances. Just now I saw Magnitskaya [3] at the consul's, with whom I'm staying temporarily. A nice person. I'm compelled to make many visits to the houses frequented by the late Kotek. Tomorrow I'll be dining at two of those houses, at 1.30 and 5.30. Awful. Afterwards it's the evening of Bülow's concert [4], and then I'm invited to one of the houses again for supper. Think of me on Friday 7 February/27 January, when it will be my concert, or as they describe it here, Tschaikowsky's grosser Konzert. In any case, letters will only arrive after the concert. I escaped from Friedrich [5] today with 500 marks (an epic tale). He's a son of a bitch and even something of a blackmailer. Sapelnikov is staying next to me, and I'm very fond of him. He's a great consolation for me. After waking in the mornings I sink into a deep ineffable despair. Then it passes when the commotion starts. I kiss you and dear Batasha hard. P. Tchaikovsky |
